Rewind is greening Jaarbeurs one fiber at a time

Dutch Utrecht’s iconic event venue, Jaarbeurs, is going all in for sustainability. With its eyes on the prize – becoming Europe’s most sustainable venue by 2030 – the Jaarbeurs choice for Rewind® was a shoo-in.

Jaarbeurs welcomes 2.3 million visitors to its impressive 100,000 m² space every year.

And according to Marloes van den Berg, Jaarbeurs Chief Sustainability Officer: “Aside from catering and exhibition stands, carpet is one of our biggest opportunities to go climate neutral. […] So, we’re going for the most sustainable exhibition carpet on the market. That’s a huge leap toward our mission to become Europe’s ‘most sustainable venue’ and a CO2-neutral venue in Utrecht.”

Rewind® is the world’s first Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver event carpet, singling their solutions out as certifiably sustainable down the line.

Not a single drop of water is used during production because they’ve banned latex. Plus, energy consumption is cut drastically. Best of all, Rewind closes the loop. Every event carpet easily converts into pure mono-recyclate pellets. That means a “new” raw material ready for a new incarnation.

“At Beaulieu, we are committed to a sustainable future based on recyclable products and the responsible use of resources,” says Frederik Bouteca, General Manager of Beaulieu Soft Flooring. “We are incredibly proud and pleased that Jaarbeurs has gone all-in and partnered with our Rewind®-partner, JMT Floorcoverings. That’s another win for our mission to make events sustainable and eliminate carpet waste.”

Rewind has gained ground rapidly, despite the marked absence of live events over the past two years. Last year, Ifema Madrid – one of Europe’s largest venues – became a rethinker. They green up their events with Rewind carpets and have them recycled into brand-new event furniture when they’re done. Now, that’s progress!
